Bogong Moths at Lakes Lights (East Gippsland)

Rebus Theatre’s Project Alchemy present:

Bogong Moths at Lakes Lights

A project to create a roving arts performance inspired by the Bogong Moth as part of the East Gippsland Winter Festival

As part of this years Lakes Lights (Lakes Entrance, East Gippsland) on the 1st July, Project Alchemy artist Mica Mahani is supported a project to create a roving arts performance inspired by the Bogong Moth.

4 enthusiastic young people (14–25yo) had the opportunity to work with 2 performing artists that specialise in community dance, circus and theatre activations. The project consisted of 3 days of performing, choreography and costume making, culminating in a roving arts experience honouring the Bogong Moth.

The group is currently working on their costumes and performance and will performed Saturday July 1 from 3-7pm at Lakes Entrance Lakes Lights.

Here are some words from Mica about the experience:
The  East Gippsland Winter Festival really put it on for Lakes Lights on Saturday night – I’m still not sure I wasn’t dreaming. First we watched on as a parade of over 500 lanterns meander along the Esplanade at Lakes Entrance, and slowly cross over the water… to a cove of giant glowing insects, a mega praying mantis climbing a building, a low lying full moon… It was as though I fell into a Miyazaki movie.

I was lucky enough to be working with these 4 amazing human-beings-turned Moth creations, who roved and danced and made mischief of one kind or another, and helped bring the magic to life.

Thank you so much Project Alchemy for making this all possible, and Lee Nickless for inviting me to be a part of it.
Project Alchemy is made possible thanks to funding from the Australian Government for the Black Summer Bushfire Grant Program.
Rebus is also supported by Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres and the ACT Government.
